I ask because I just had something weird happen. I went outside to snoop around my pond (as per usual, now that it's not quite so OMG hot), and as I was walking I put my hands behind the back, and sort of clasped one hand over the back of the other one, in a subconscious gesture. As I did so, I felt a slight (and I mean slight) stinging sensation on my middle finger of the "top" hand - enough to notice I felt something, but not enough for me to even be sure that it was anything other than just a phantom twinge like people get now and then.
So I unclasp my hand and bring both hands back out in front of me to look at them, expecting to find nothing - and see a hornet just sitting right on my left hand (which was the "bottom" hand, and the sensation came from the finger of the other hand, that had been clasping it). I kinda gasped and shook it off, and that was maybe 20 minutes ago and I haven't had any real pain or burning or swelling from the finger since that point. So I'm wondering - did it sting me, and I was lucky and had very little pain, and almost no reaction? Do they maybe bite? Was it just maybe that I felt something under my finger, and it did nothing, but my brain translated the sensation as a phantom pain?
I mean, WTF? I was last stung as a much younger (and wimpier) child, but I remember it HURT like a bitch. Is it possible to get a hornet sting and barely register the pain? The hell?
