There is not nearly enough Skyrim discussion going on!

Although I guess I can understand it, since...

a) Playing, not posting!

b) It's hard to figure out what might or might not be spoilage for everyone else. I mean, I'm up to level 12, and I've still barely touched the main storyline. And it's not like everyone would even be doing the same sidequests either...

So anyhow. What's everyone else doing? I'm a female Bosmer, swordwielder and magic-user (mostly Destruction, Conjuration and Restoration), with a lot of Enchanting/Alchemy and a wee bit of Smithing. And I've been doing a lot of Lockpicking too, although I haven't been doing much other thiefly stuff.

So far I'm a member of the Companions and the Bard's College, not too far along in either, and still want to join the Stormcloaks (started that quest) and the College of Magic (haven't been there yet). Just got my own place. Have a follower.

Grrr, I dunno what else I want to say, that might not be, like, spoilycakes! I still have to go talk to the Greybeards, and will probably do that next... that is vague enough that it shouldn't be spoily. (Then probably the College of Magic... then maybe I'll see about that Stormcloaks quest if I'm feeling high enough level yet...)

Have you been sampling the reagents as you pick them up/collect them? Tasting them (or whatever it is you do with them... actually I hope you don't taste SOME of those reagents... but I think you do *shudder*) gives you the first attribute on their list of four, and once you have enough of those you can start mixing and matching. Plus you can just experiment with the different ingredients at the alchemy lab, mixing up 2 or 3 different things, and if you happen to get a match with 2 of them with some of their effects, you successfully get a potion (and it reveals those attributes on the components you used).

And yeah, a place of your own is verra nice. Save up a little extra, because once you have a place you can decorate it a bit with Nicer Stuff.

And yeah, I'm half tempted to say fuck the Stormcloaks too, the further I go in the game but... I'll probably go with them if nothing else just to thumb my nose at the damn Empire, for the same reason you gave.

(I've only had one assassin so far. Now I feel inadequate!)

Yeah, and there's a perk later on that lets you "sample" more than one of the effects of the reagents that way, but you need to already have decently high alchemy, which seems... less than ideal. But oh well.

I suspect they wouldn't force you to join a side, and yeah, I went to the town. It's... yeah. I got the impression it's more that the townspeople are racist toward Dunmer, and the Stormcloaks just can't be bothered to correct them, but still! Not Good!

My assassin was just the Dark Brotherhood. Wonder if I haven't stepped on High Elven toes in some way yet, or if they just haven't got around to/located me.

I look forward to it, cause I have like a helmet and bracers or something that are elven armor, and they rock! (I'm doing the light armor route, to split the difference between "warrior" and "mage"...)

I don't wanna give up my boots though, they have something like an extra 30 to carrying capacity enchanted on them, and I'm hesitant to destroy the enchantment and try to cast it elsewhere, cause it'll suck more. :/

Yeah, I didn't know about the sampling thing either. I facepalmed last night when I asked one of my Steam friends about it and he pointed that out to me.

Then I learned, like, 40 different properties in a hurry!

Mushroom dungeon... let me guess, Haldir's tomb, or whatever it's called?

Huh, don't think I hit that one yet.

I bought a house to store my extra stuff in because none of the merchants have enough money. I keep buying everything I want from them and then selling them forks until I have all the money again, and I still have forks leftover.
Nov. 14th, 2011 08:46 pm (UTC)
I am now picturing your character running around Skyrim, lobbing forks and random NPCs, yelling "Fork you! No, fork you!"
Nov. 14th, 2011 08:49 pm (UTC)
Her t-shirt says "Ask me if I give a fork."
Nov. 14th, 2011 01:25 pm (UTC)
Whoa, really? I guzzle healing potions like Kool-Aid. Even with all the ones I find, I still make as many as I can every time I run across a lab.

Taking a short break and saw this.

I'm, um, further along. Archmage. Member of Companions and Bard College. Maxed Sneak. Mix of Destruction/Restoration/One-Hand/Archery, but the melee combat is slowly going away now that I have enough of a magicka pool to handle extensive spellcasting. Barely touched the main quest (I'm literally 1 step past you - I talked to the Greybeards but have not done the followups) but have managed to get to level 38.

Looking back, MAN, that is a lot of sidequests. And mining. And Alchemy. And Smithing. And selling. Lots and lots and lots of selling. I've taken to caching as much crap in a chest near the entrance as I can, fast travelling back to my archmage quarters, dropping off everything, and heading back to do it again, since I'm now heavily into ebony/dwarven/glass drops with lots of modifiers.

If I were starting again (and I will, one day, to explore the 2-hander/heavy armor lines), I'd start, at a minimum, with archery and sneak. Those 2 combined are so overpowered it is not funny.

I'm to the point where I just can't be bothered looting too much from the bodies, because geez. I cherry-pick a few of the nicer things, like jewelry, or maybe something I might want to keep/enchant for myself, like elven armor (not being as high level yet!)

I think if I start again, which I also guess I will at some point, I'll probably play an archer to try that out. Although maybe I should have saved my Bosmer for that, since they have a bonus to archery. But oh well! Why make it too easy? :p

Hah. "Boots? 4 gold for 2 pounds? *toss*"
Nov. 14th, 2011 01:24 pm (UTC)
Yeah, this is AFTER the prioritization. When I'm getting 200 pounds of glass/dwarven/ebony drops in a run, I don't wanna let ANY of that crap go. Plus it's hard to sell it all, since vendors have such limited gold pools. Still worth it, though. I've got over 20K gold and massive smithing materials (either smelted Dewemer stuff or mats I bought to 'refresh' the vendor GP pools) for an additional 2 hours work.

There reaches a point when simply adjusting the carryweight restriction directly becomes entirely appealing.
Nov. 14th, 2011 06:41 pm (UTC)
I've discovered that your pickpocket skill goes up based on the *value* and *weight* of what you steal.

And while stealing people's armor gets you mad training, then you're left dropping it because who wants to carry that crap. So go for their rings and necklaces instead and WOOOOSH watch your Pickpocket skill go through the roof.

Why is this comment relevant? Well, it used to be I'd steal people's food and their booze and things, just for the skill points. Now, I leave those behind and only steal the good stuff, because I get *way* more skill points by leaving the victim behind and picking a new one.

(pick on the sleeping whenever possible. And then get the perk that gives you a mad additional bonus when they're sleeping.)

I'm kind of in your department: Midway through the Companions, stopped to join the Thieves' Guild so I can find someone to SELL MY STOLEN CRAP TO, level 36ish. Maxed Smithing, 90+ Archery, 75ish Sneak. Haven't gone to the greybeards yet, but that's my current Main Quest(tm).

I bought the platinum editionsof Mass Effects 1 and 2 a couple weekends back, and am still playing through them in order to be ready for ME3, and on Tuesday I'll be getting the remastered Halo, so Skyrim's still in the "to be purchased" queue for me.
Nov. 14th, 2011 05:31 am (UTC)
Oooo, you have lots of good gamings ahead! (Well, I don't know about Halo, but ME1 and ME2 and Skyrim are all good things to look forward to!)

Only lvl 4 so far. Been going slow. Male Redguard, duel wield axes, some magic now and then.

Done the first couple story quests and a couple side ones. Really having a tough time finding the damn entrances to places, and finding specific people. Also I want a horse!

I stole one from dead bandits but it ran away when I dismounted.

Well, now you've got something to save up for. :3
