Losing your job because of who you marry? Ouch. Then again, I'm not sure what it'd be like today if someone in the cops married a con. Would that be grounds for dismissal?

Hrm. So this guy stole these pearls, and they're worth 200k, and he's been out for 5 years... why would they still be where they were? I mean I could imagine him not leaving the prison and going straight there, but still. 5 years?

Ah, and the complications come in. Did anyone really expect things to just go smoothly? Anyone? At all?

"The old dog catcher"? What kinda nickname is that for a private dick? Yeesh.

And man, falling for drugged drink now? Marlowe Marlowe Marlowe. Tsk tsk. As much as he gets people sneaking up on him, drugging him, holding him up, etc., it's a wonder this guy's still alive.

The "pool" in small letters on the sign as if it's trying to hide makes me think of The Music Man. But maybe it's just me.

And he drinks more whiskey poured by strangers, and gets guns pointed at him AGAIN. Yeesh Marlowe. Twice, even.

And a nice little cliffhangery place to leave off. Although somehow I'm betting he doesn't get a cut of 25 grand, somehow...

I think in general firing someone for marrying an ex-con would be a no-no, but I'm not sure if that'd hold true for cops, since they'd need more oversight in general due to their position. Hrm. Still, I'm learning toward "not gonna happen today," but I don't know!

And yeah, I can see the potential for violence showing what sort of elements he's dealing with on a daily basis, I just wish he were a bit more... genre-savvy I suppose. :p
