Okay foodies...

Is pesto sauce supposed to look absolutely revolting?

I could give a better description, but... probably the least gross would be "a green oozy mess."

(Given that I'm also not loving the smell... um... I think dinner might need a radical last-minute rethink. At least I haven't cooked the spaghetti yet...)

Straight from the garden. As in, I was dodging bees to get enough for the sauce.

Well, I may give it a go tomorrow after some sleep puts some distance between me and the smell (and try to drizzle a bit onto some pasta without smelling it)...

If not though, I already have a destination for it, don't worry!

Well, it does smell pretty basilly, but it turns out that that much basil smell at once makes my stomach go "aaagh oh HELL no."

Which means I think I prefer the guinea pig solution, more than the buying more extra stuff solution.

Cheddar won't ruin a pesto. We make pesto semi-regularly here, and usually uses other flavourful quality cheeses in it, to no ill effect.
