Parasha: Frankenstein March 9th reading

Oh right, guess I should do this before I get totally diverted. >_>

Zzzz letter zzzzzz....

"Oh, you probably don't remember this person entering our household despite her being "a great favourite of yours," so I'll just recap for the audiencerefresh your memory!" Heh. This is especially noticeable when she then goes off on tangents explaining that the Swiss are less class-stratified and all, which you'd think Victor might already know? So... yeah, a bit clumsy.

Really though there's not much to say about this chapter I think. It's mostly just filling some time in between Happenings, while Victor recovers, and setting things up in a nice rosy little way to presumably be smashed horribly later on, one would imagine.

Yes! Although the lack of formal adoption (from what I can tell, or even a more strict "you are our daughter!" type thing) is a bit understandable though, since a) by that time, the Frankensteins already had a fair-sized family from the sound of it, rather than just one lone child, and b) the child in question was twelve, and had a living mother and siblings, which would have made it more difficult to just suddenly make her a family member.

But yeah, the fact that she then became a servant is a bit... yeah.

Ours isn't here yet! And we have to see a new baby first before we can fire it up anyway. Ahem.

Yeah, I thought that was really weird too. I mean, great illnesses can cause amnesia and all, but this really took me out of the story to wonder if it was being published as a serial or something. (I don't believe so.) I'm just not used to reading stories where new family members are introduced casually midstory. (The clone of Miles Vorkosigan doesn't count -- that wasn't casual.)
