My gods...

Is it possible that Sweet's artwork has gotten even WORSE in the intervening time?

Also: They should slap a warning on this thing. Accidentally dropping it could cause limb breakage, or even someone's death! Good grief.

Clicky!

Also, I think this may be his most consistent anatomy fail so far. Not a single person on that cover has normal human proportions.

Poll done!

And yes, yes that's one of the main things I noticed. Aviendha (?) has way out-of-proportion arms, Rand is so top-heavy he'd topple over immediately...

The random Saldean dudes on the back are every bit as terrible.

...that's almost too scary too contemplate =P Or possibly too amusing, i'm not sure which :)

Has the cover art for the new book been shown or something?

Cover art? Huh? The new book's out, dude. I received it from Amazon this morning. Where you been?

Heh, i knew it was coming out, but i didn't know exactly when :) I haven't really kept up with the WoT scene since... 1998 i think?

Oh and here's the cover. Although it doesn't quite do it, um, "justice" in anything less than full size, in-person.

But.. but... you voted that his artwork hasn't gotten worse! :p

Those two statements are not mutually incompatible!

No, I contend that it has always been horrible, and (sing it with me) I do not understand why this man has a job.

You know what I thought when I first saw the cover?

KHAAAAAAN!!!

*snrk* You would. :p

Umm.... I haven't read these in a long time, but did someone get their left hand cut off? I don't think there is enough space between the elbow and the draping sleeve thing? (Oh so practical, these clothes...)

That's the most eyeglaringly blatant thing I see.

Actually, it DID get cut off. So that's one thing we can't really pick about, but still.

Wheee!!!! You can tell I haven't picked one of these up in... probably ~8 years? At least?

Other than that, I thought the artwork as seen above was improved from past covers - and his old Jordan covers were improved from the old McKillip Riddlemaster covers - so maybe he is very, very, very slowly getting better?

(and I just had to explain to khedron exactly why Sesshomaru was appropriate there...)

Bahahaha, yeah, I guess it's not a reference everyone would immediately get...

As to improvement, I dunno. Maybe I'm just forgetting how truly wretched some of the old ones were. Although I do remember copy+pasted horsies. But the anatomy just seems even more... OFF this time. But like I said, it's been a while!

I think you're forgetting the wretched "falling into a pit" cover, and the "Moiraine has a tiny little pony" cover, to name just the very worst of them...

No actual covers, but the appropriate section of an old version of the WoTFAQ, just to remind you of the highlights...

(Appropriate icon was very much appropriate!)

Man, I would have called those two some of the BETTER covers in the series. I mean "Moiraine Has A Tiny Little Pony" was inaccurate, but nowhere near as UGLY as "Moiraine Cooks Breakfast" or "The Passion of the Aes Sedai" imho.

I guess it just goes to show how bad Sweet's covers have been that any one of them could contend for the title of "worst" according to different people...

I still like My Little Cut and Paste Job....

I don't know---at least "Moiraine Cooks Breakfast" had some nice background scenery and a few humans on it that did not have faces reminiscent of some hitherto undiscovered species of monkeys; "The Passion of the Aes Sedai" had an even nicer back cover and most of its problems were due to composition---which, to give it its due, was completely horrid.

This has no good scenery, and no one who isn't a new species of monkey. The... Shienarans?... on the back cover actually made me cringe away physically at first glance.
