Parasha: Oct. 5 reading

One of the longer chapters thus far, although that's not saying too much.

We start to see even more of Graymalk, who is shaping up to be important as either an ally or an antagonist, or possibly not... very suitably ambiguous for a cat.

The two discuss a killing in town disturbingly nonchalantly, and it is clear (if it wasn't already) that murder is necessary for at least some of the participants of current events. Also note that Graymalk heard of a "particularly vicious dog" and thought of Snuff, which makes one wonder even more about his origins. (Well, or at least makes ME wonder even more.)

There is an exchange of information (which is already starting to show itself as very important) between Snuff/Graymalk and Nightwind, although I note that Snuff isn't exactly honest: He also knows of the Count. Although that doesn't seem to be as much intentional dishonesty on his part, he just seems to be forgetting about his encounter with Needle. Maybe. We also get Owen's name, here.

We are also introduced to the "Good Doctor," who has a hunched hench, a history of graverobbing, flashes of light and ozone and wild laughter. Hmmmmm....

Then there's the fact that Snuff is obviously Up To Something, although we're not told what yet... and the ominous second pawprint that he finds, which along with the previous discussion of a vicious dog is shaping up to be also important.

So generally a chapter of a bit more introduction, but moving more to the Setting Up of Things. Er, that's Things in a dramatic sense, not capitalized-because-they're-Cthulhoid sense.

Hrm, definitely something to think about. I'm also thinking his current project, which obviously I don't want to go all Spoilery about but even thus far we get a hint that it involves the other "players" and he doesn't even think about the Count where we can "see,"... but I could still see it either way.

At any rate, it at the very least brings up the idea that Snuff is quite possibly not all that honest all the time, which probably shouldn't matter when the whole killin' thing also crops up this time, but still!

Also: Yay for catching up!

I haven't quite worked out who Jill is supposed to be yet, or even if she's supposed to be significant.
