I have had people say this to me about grade school years, sometimes when they ought to have known better, even. It's odd.

I've also heard people say it about college, and while I'm not sure I agree, it was a good part of my life, to be certain.

See, apparently we're some of the only people that have had it applied to grade school years in general, not just high school. (Well, unless you mean just high school, and didn't specify).

In either case, while my high school years were better than my earlier school years, they still weren't All That, and being told then and earlier that "but these are the best years of your life! You should be enjoying them!" was depressing as hell! Not to suicidal levels, but sheesh, way to go people. Tell someone who's obviously miserable in a stage of their life that "it just gets worse from here"... great message!
