Dumb question time

Is there a trick to unseating the cables from the old video card? Just pure brute force?

Nah, they were quite efficient at torture without them.

Check the back of the card at the bottom for a retaining clip on the motherboard that a simple push with your finger will release.

Thanks, although it turned out brute force (or some coaxing variant thereof) was in fact the correct solution. Who knew?

... depends on the cables, and they'll often be a little sticky if they've been there for a while, but brute force is almost never the correct solution.

It actually was in this case! Well, I mean, to the extent of there not being any specific trick, and having to just wiggle/coax the damn things out.

Yeah, that's the "sticky" thing. Gently but firmly wiggling them back and forth will almost always tell you if there's a clip or screw or if they're just stuck.

The trick is that you always want to make *sure* there's no clip or screw before you pull any harder.

Yeah, I figured, hence why I asked mostly to make sure there wasn't something really obvious I was overlooking in my frustration, since it was being a Royal Bitch about coming out.
