Well, hell. R.I.P.

For those who haven't seen it on other blogs yet, it looks like Robert Jordan has passed away.

Damnit. Say what you want about how the Wheel of Time ended up going, but the man still did give me a hell of a lot of enjoyment in his time, along with indirectly introducing me to a hell of a lot of interesting people.

R.I.P.

Oh balls. While I am very sad for his passing, I am now going to flee in terror and hide away from every sci/fi - fatnasy community as the Great Wank commances...

Agreed on all counts, I think...

Sad indeed...
RJ was a heck of a storyteller, and brought the Darkfriends together. Hopefully the last book will be finished by Harriet, but if she doesn't or can't, we'll need to live with that decision. Paraphrasing:

There are neither beginnings or endings to the Wheel, but this was an ending...

Re: Sad indeed...
Agreed, although it'll be a disservice to him and to the fans, I think, if the story isn't told to completion. But... what can we do?

At any rate... R.I.P. man.

Re: Sad indeed...
He knew this was coming for quite awhile. Presumably if he felt it was important for the story to be finished with or without him then he related the necessary details to someone.

Wow, i remember spending hours and hours on rec.arts.sf.written.robert-jordan discussing the books back in college. I think it was only up to book 6 or 7 back then? I'd already read through the entire series, such as it was at that point, two or three times.

Yeah, RIP =/

Wait, you're daetrin from the GAF boards, right? Isn't that where I know you from? And you were in r.a.sf.w.r-j as well?

I'm getting confused. o_O

Yeah :) Were you on r.a.sf.w.r-j too? I was active... looks like on and off from 1994 to 1996 according to google groups.

Ah, I can't remember if I was on there by then or not. It's just odd, because probably a good half or more of my friends' list (and the commenters on my posts and such) are from that same newsgroup, so for a bit I thought maybe I'd had it wrong, and you had added me from that connection. o_O

A small world, indeed.

I always said that stupid series could kill brain cells. Hated it.

I never meant it should kill its own damn author. Apparently he had handed in the final book to the editor.

along with indirectly introducing me to a hell of a lot of interesting people.

Indeed. I think this legacy will outlast his words, but really, I think that's a worthy goal to attain.
